Amego Team Takes First at Gran Fondo Badlands on E-Bikes

Two of our own proved e-bikes belong on the podium, not just the commute.

Mike and Blake from the Amego team lined up for the Triceratops 75km route at the TransRockies Gran Fondo Badlands in Drumheller, Alberta. The course runs 75.9 km through the hoodoos and the Red Deer River valley, with 399 m of elevation gain (about 1073 ft by their own ride computers) along the way.

Blake rode a Bulls Desert Falcon. Mike rode an Aventon Current. Both bikes made it to the finish line with plenty left in the tank: 30% battery remaining on the Desert Falcon, 15% on the Current.

"I was more worried about the climbs than the distance," Blake said. "The Desert Falcon just settled into a rhythm on the long grades. Landing at 30% left at the finish told me I could have kept going."

Mike pushed his Current closer to the limit. "Fifteen percent left after 76 km and that much climbing is not bad at all. I ran a lower assist mode on the flats to save battery for the hills only a few times, but it paid off."

They took first place in the e-bike category.

Just two of oue Amego e-bike experts on pedal-assist bikes putting down a strong run on a demanding course. It is exactly the kind of result that answers the question we get in the shop all the time: can an e-bike actually handle real distance and real climbing? Nearly 76 km and almost 400 m of gain, finishing with range to spare, says yes.

Both the Bulls Desert Falcon and Aventon Current are available at all three Amego locations: Downtown Toronto, Midtown Toronto, and Calgary. Come talk to us if a Gran Fondo is on your list too.
