Argon 18 Electric Bikes
Argon 18 is a Montreal-based performance cycling brand - one of the few truly Canadian bicycle companies competing at the top of the road and gravel market. The Subito is their electric bike lineup, and it is built around a clear philosophy: the bike should feel like a performance road or gravel bike first, and an e-bike second. If you have been put off by heavy, motor-dominant e-bikes that alter your riding feel, Argon 18 is the alternative worth considering.

Argon 18 Subito - Performance First, Electric Second
Both the Subito E-Road and Subito E-Gravel use the MAHLE X35+ rear hub motor system - a 250W motor with 40 Nm of torque integrated invisibly into the rear wheel hub, with a 250Wh battery hidden inside the down tube. The result is a bike that is visually almost indistinguishable from a non-assisted road bike. Total weight comes in under 12 kg, which puts it in the same range as many high-end non-electric road bikes and well under any mid-drive e-bike at a comparable price point. Motor assistance cuts in naturally and quietly up to 32 km/h, with a realistic range of 60-80 km per charge depending on terrain and assist level.
The E-Road variant runs Shimano groupsets on a carbon endurance frame with Argon 18's 3D fit system for precise position adjustment across all frame sizes.
The E-Gravel runs a SRAM Apex AXS XPLR 1x wireless drivetrain - no cables, wide-range cassette, and the clean cockpit that drop-bar gravel riding demands. Both bikes ship with integrated front and rear lights wired directly to the motor battery.
Amego carries the Subito lineup in-store at our Toronto and Calgary locations, with test rides available by appointment. Free shipping on all orders across Canada.
Frequently Asked Questions - Argon 18 E-Bikes at Amego
What is an e-road bike?
An e-road bike is a drop-bar road bike with a integrated pedal-assist motor. Unlike a standard e-bike, an e-road bike is designed to feel and handle like a performance road bike - same geometry, same weight distribution, same riding position - with motor assist that fills in on climbs and headwinds rather than dominating the ride. The Argon 18 Subito E-Road weighs under 12 kg and uses a hidden rear hub motor, making it effectively indistinguishable from a regular road bike to ride and to look at.
What is the difference between an e-road bike and an e-gravel bike?
E-road bikes are optimized for pavement - narrower tires, stiffer frame, geometry tuned for speed and efficiency on smooth surfaces. E-gravel bikes use wider tire clearance, a slightly more relaxed geometry, and components suited to mixed surfaces including dirt roads, gravel paths, and light trails. The Subito E-Gravel adds a SRAM Apex AXS XPLR 1x wireless drivetrain and gravel-specific geometry to the same MAHLE X35+ motor platform as the E-Road, making it the more versatile choice for riders who split time between pavement and unpaved routes.
What is the range of the Argon 18 Subito on a single charge?
Real-world range is 60-80 km per charge depending on terrain, assist level, and rider weight. On flat roads in Eco mode a strong rider can exceed 100 km. On hilly terrain in higher assist modes, expect closer to 50-60 km. A 250Wh range extender is available separately and roughly doubles the range for longer rides.
How light is the Argon 18 Subito compared to other e-bikes?
The Subito comes in under 12 kg, which is exceptional for an e-bike and comparable to many high-end non-electric road bikes. Most Bosch mid-drive e-bikes weigh 20-24 kg. That weight difference is noticeable in handling, climbing, and carrying the bike - if you have ever ridden a heavy e-bike and found it feeling sluggish without the motor on, the Subito rides nothing like that.
