Amego Electric Vehicles was founded in 2010 by entrepreneur Virginia Block. Growing up 6 hours north of Toronto, Block had a close connection to her natural environment and a strong motivation to make a positive impact wherever she put her energy.
Her grit and determination led her to begin development on Amego’s first product line from the ground up, working directly with manufacturers in Asia to build electric bikes that offer high quality and great value. When she opened her original location, it was a live/work space, with her bedroom just above the showroom floor.
Since then, Amego has grown to become Canada’s largest electric bicycle retailer, complete with warehousing, international shipping and a complete Amego branded electric bicycle lineup.
Amego has developed strong industry-wide relationships, becoming a key sales and service center for high-end international brands such as Riese & Muller, Stromer, Gazelle, Tern, Benno, BionX, Haibike and others.
As Amego has grown, it has become Canada’s most trusted electric bicycle expert and a leader in the electric bike movement. If it means staying late, working weekends or express shipping parts, the team goes above and beyond to do everything possible to help its valued customers and provide a ‘Limitless’ Amego experience.

1 Order Timelines
1.1 I ordered my e-bike online, when will it arrive?
Amego is building and shipping bikes on a first in first out basis. Bicycles will be inspected then shipped typically within 1 to 2 weeks.
Bikes that are out of stock will be special ordered and, depending on where the bike is coming from, additional days can be expected.
Once your bike has shipped, it will arrive to you within the normal shipping times which depend on your location in North America. You will receive an email with shipping details and tracking information once your bike is prepped to go out.
As always, if we can do better on timelines you will be notified.
For more GENERAL information regarding shipping and returns click HERE.

3 ELECTRIC BIKE BASICS
3.1 How do I properly take care of my bike?
Keep your tires at the correct tire pressure, the exact varies bike to bike. Amego brand bikes are typically around 50-60 psi, Mountain bikes are usually 44psi and fat bikes are typically 20 psi. Your tire psi will be listed on the side of your tire
- Not doing this can damage the rim of your bike and decrease the distance you can travel on 1 battery charge
Replace break pads every 1,500 - 2,000kms. If you hear a squeaking as if metal on metal that means you have entirely rubbed away your break pads, breaking would be delayed and you would be sharpening your breaks.
Do not store battery in environments that are too hot and too cold (you can ride using them in the winter and in summer)
Do not fully drain your battery, you should charge your battery when its hits around 30% full charge
Do not forget about your battery while its charging, over charging a battery can damage it. For most batteries sold, do not charge for longer than 8 hours
Do not store bikes in sub zero temperature
Chain and freewheel
3.2 Why should I buy an electric bike?
To get up hills easier, without breaking a sweat. To save on gas, parking, and insurance. To commute while improving our air quality, and reduce your carbon footprint! To make money delivering food, or to push your MTB performance! To get to work or play easier, or to keep your old pace! Perhaps, to show you care for the environment. Or even to simply bolt around the city or country faster, without the need for a car. Why you ride an e-bike is your decision, albeit at Amego we guarantee it will be a 'limitless' experience.
3.3 How FAR can my electric bicycle go?
The range of your e-bicycle depends on the motor, the size of battery, how well you take care of your bike and what level of assist you use. Even then, after all, if you do run out of battery you can still pedal any e-bicycle like any other bicycle, so you can go as a far as you have energy.
3.4 How FAST can my electric bicycle go?
Many e-bicycles limit their pedal assist to 32 kmh (20 mph), however there are styles that can reach speeds in excess of 45 kmh (28mph) - these are called s-pedelecs or speed pedelecs.
In Ontario Government regulations prohibits E-bikes from traveling faster than 32km/h. Check out E-bike regulations HERE.
3.5 How LONG does it take my battery to charge?
Generally, it takes between 4 - 8 hours for an e-bike's lithium ion battery to charge fully from empty.
3.6 How do I charge my e-bike battery?
You can generally charge your bike battery on or off of the bike. Electric bikes will ship to you with an adapter that can be plugged into any standard outlet.
3.7 Can my e-bike move without pedalling?
Some of our e-bikes have a throttle which can be engaged once you get going. However, the majority of our e-bikes are pedal-assist entirely - meaning the motor will only engage as you pedal.
3.8 Can I put my e-bike on my car's bike rack?
Yes you can. E-bikes are heavier than ordinary bikes, but still safe to put on a high quality bike rack.
3.9 How do I protect my e-bike against theft?
Always use a lock of the highest quality when locking your e-bike outside. If you are leaving your e-bike locked outside for longer than 5 minutes, take your battery with you. If you are leaving it outside for longer than a few hours take it inside with you. No lock is impervious to sustained effort.
As a further measure, we record and register serial numbers of all e-bikes bought from our store, so in case of the unfortunate scenario that yours is stolen, we will know if anyone who is not you attempts to buy a battery for it.
4 ELECTRIC BIKE TECH BASICS
4.1 What is pedal assist?
Pedal assist is the primary feature of e-bikes, which helps you turn the pedals through use of the motor, powered by the battery. With pedal assist you do not need a throttle. There are two main types of pedal assist: cadence sensor, and torque sensor.
4.2 What is the difference between a cadence sensor and a torque sensor?
A cadence sensor is simply a magnet on the crank that turns the motor on when you start pedalling. It is called a cadence sensor because it moves the pedals at a pre-set cadence. Hence, regardless of the pressure you put on the pedals, the pedals will move to the speed of the cadence.
A torque sensor is a more sophisticated piece of technology, in that it measures the force you put on the pedal over the entire rotation, to provide the appropriate amount of power to the motor. If you pedal lighter, less power goes to the motor. If you pedal harder, more power goes to the motor, and the faster you go.
In sum, a cadence sensor measures if you are pedalling, while a torque sensor measures how hard you are pedalling.
5 LEGAL QUESTIONS
5.1 Are there restrictions on my e-bike usage?
All e-bikes must respect the rules of the road, which vary locally, from province to province, from state to state. Typically all riders must be 16 and older, wear a helmet, and follow the rules of a bicycle.
Find out more about the laws and regulations HERE
5.2 Do I have to wear a helmet?
Yes, typically speaking. In Ontario, every e-cyclist must wear a helmet. Please check your local laws for the most accurate information.
